Dr Akhilesh Tiwari is a dual specialist in Anaesthesia and pain medicine. He received his initial training in few of the best centres of India before moving to National University Hospital Singapore to work as a clinical fellow in Anaesthesia and Chronic pain. He then moved to Toronto and worked at St Michael’s Hospital and Toronto Western Hospital from 2013 to 2016. At University of Toronto, Dr. Tiwari received further training in regional anaesthesia, Trauma Neuroanaesthesia and critical care. Here he grew interest towards applied ultrasound in anaesthesia, nerve blocks and in pain medicine. After working in these centres, he then moved to sunny Townsville, and has been working at Townsville University Hospital since 2016. Here he obtained his specialist qualification in chronic pain (FFPMANZCA).
Dr Tiwari is also working as a pain medicine physician at the North Queensland Persistent Pain Management Service, Townsville University Hospital. Over the year’s Dr Tiwari has participated in numerous researches, which have been presented at various medical conferences and published in various peer reviewed Indexed journals.
Dr Tiwari is confident in management of all aspects and type of chronic pain management. He is competent in advanced pain interventions like nerve blocks, epidural injections, Radio frequency ablations and other advanced neuromodulation techniques. He works closely with the patients and their treating General Practitioners to ensure that the formulated plans are initiated in a timely fashion.
Dr Tiwari’s interests are:
• Interventional Techniques for low back pain, chronic hip, knee, and shoulder pain with special focus on neuromodulation and spinal cord stimulators.
• Chronic post-surgical pain.
• Role of Ultrasound as point of care practice in pain medicine both as diagnostic and therapeutic modality.
• Outside of work he is an avid traveller and enjoys playing cricket, basketball, and spending time with his wife family.
